He had just turned eighteen highschool had ended only a few days before his birthday and he was acting on his promise to come "save her" as they had called it. He stumbled into an old dealership not to far from a major highway. he walked through the rows of cars looking for something in his price range, until a greasy salesman appeared next to a red pickup. he had really wanted to avoid speaking with a salesman, but it couldn't be helped. after a few hours of negotiation with the salesman he came down to deciding between the red pickup he had seen before and a black van that the dealer had pushed on him, normally he would have just bought the pickup and left, it was cheaper and an all around better buy, but oddly he decided against it and drove away with the van, as he rode the on-ramp onto the highway he thought about why he had done that but he couldn't find any answers.
His thoughts were broken by her shifting in his arms trying to find a more comfortable position her hand moved to his side and her face was upturned towards his. at first he had thought she had woken up, but her eyes were still shut and he thought against it (she seemed like she slept more easily then she had in awhile, possibly in years) A strand of black hair draped across her face. He watched her sleep for a few minutes and though about how wonderful she appeared as she slept. He listened quietly to every breath, every movement, every small noise around him. rain started to pour at first drunkenly but it gained a sort of sober after a few moments. she stirred and rubber her eyes until she could see clearly. she smiled at him and mouthed the words "good morning" but the sound didn't quite carry over the noise of the rain. He kissed her softly and spoke the words "I love you" despite the rain. she giggled the way she always had when he had told her that he loved her. Together they listened to the deafening patter of rain on the metal roof, eyes closed. nothing mattered outside of the van, atleast to them it didnt
